Packing for an RV trip differs from a hotel stay or tent camping. You have a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom on wheels, so you need gear for all three — but limited space and weight mean overpacking is its own problem. The fix is a checklist built around what the rental does not include.

Step 1: Confirm What the Rental Includes
Before packing, ask the owner what comes with the rig. Most include basic kitchenware and bedding, but policies vary. Confirm: kitchen kit (pots, pans, utensils), bedding and towels, cleaning supplies, and RV-specific gear (fresh-water hose, sewer hose, power cord, leveling blocks). Pack only what is missing.
Kitchen and Cooking Gear
Most RV kitchens have a stove, fridge, microwave, and sink — not always the gear.
- Pots and pans with lids
- Non-stick skillet
- Plates, bowls, cups (unbreakable)
- Utensils and a few cooking tools
- Can and bottle openers
- Dish soap, sponge, dish towels
- A small cutting board
RV-Specific Gear
- Potable water hose (white, for drinking water only)
- Sewer hose with fittings and a support
- Leveling blocks (often provided; bring your own if not)
- Wheel chocks
- 30-to-50 amp adapter if your rig and pedestal differ
- Surge protector for the pedestal connection
- Hose pressure regulator
Safety and Emergency
- Fire extinguisher (confirm one is on board)
- Carbon monoxide and smoke detectors (check they work)
- First-aid kit
- Roadside kit: triangles, flashlight, gloves, tire gauge
- Basic tools: screwdrivers, pliers, adjustable wrench, duct tape, zip ties
Personal and Comfort
- Weather layers, rain gear, camp shoes
- Toiletries and towels if not provided
- Bedding if not provided
- Headlamps or lanterns
- Chargers, 12-volt and USB adapters
- Camp chairs and a small table
